Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR)

The journey of reprocessing all begins with intention. Maybe you are tired of feeling charged and activated, maybe it’s now impacting external aspects of your life. Regardless, I offer a relational and warm environment to EMDR sessions. As it’s a bottom up treatment (aka the body leads us), I make sure we are remaining mindful and protected through the desensitizing and reprocessing journey.

What is EMDR?

EMDR is an evidence based and empirically validated therapy treatment that can be used to treat trauma, PTSD, persistent negative beliefs, and other stressful incidents. EMDR is great for singular event trauma as well as any relational maladaptive belief that feels hindering to your potential. Please explore this page through the EMDRIA website to learn more about the service and what to expect!

EMDR progress and treatment can take different lengths of time and look different depending on the person and what’s being targeted. I offer a free 15 minute phone consultation to discuss if you would be a good fit for EMDR.

I completed my EMDR training with Institute of Creative Mindfulness and fully trained. I bring in a mindfulness and attachment based perspective to the EMDR experience by establishing resources that offer us nurturance, wisdom, and protection. As a therapist who enjoys parts work/IFS (think the Inside Out movies), I bring those theories into EMDR.

For in person sessions, we have multiple BLS options including: buzzers, light bar, butterfly tapping, or following the hand! On telehealth we can use an online bilateral dot or I can also guide you through butterfly tapping.

Growth is painful, change is painful. Yet nothing is more painful than staying stuck somewhere you don’t belong.

Relief and healing is possible.

EMDR can treat

  • Depressive Disorders and moods

  • Anxiety disorders and moods

  • PTSD, singular and chronic

  • sexual assault

  • violence and abuse

  • negative belief patterns (self worth)

  • inner child healing

  • emotional, mental, and narcissistic abuse

As a decolonial trauma therapist, I utilize EMDR to process and heal from oppression cognitions and racial traumas that affect many minoritized populations. While the reality is that abolishing racism, discrimination, and any painful experience of oppression is centuries long work, EMDR can be helpful in aiding our bodies natural processing cycle for experiences and beliefs of oppression that can be a barrier to our sense of peace.

We create space and invite our ancestral and generational resources to also aid in the strengthening of our natural process of healing.
