Benefits of Support Circles
The group format helps participants dismantle the idea that they are alone in their experience and emotions. Being togther in this space reduces alienation and isolation and works to build a more compassoniate voice towards the very real and present feeling of collective suffering. Connection matters most.
Group circles still provide you professional recommendations to handling stress and forming better coping routines. It also brings the chance to learn from your peer participants in hearing and sharing how they have survived through similar periods of stress.
Groups offer an opportunity to see your own reflection and address blindspots that may surface. We all have blindspots, it’s a part of the human experience. Groups provid a space for the growth that comes from vulnerability, gaining perspective from other, and improving coping abilities for what was unseen before.
Groups provide a great space to move towards self embracing your emotional expression and experience. My therapy style often includes taking note of what our body is communicating to us, and building/practicing ways to externalize and express it. Groups also provide a great space to put into practice the skills gained in other healing spaces.
Our nervous system needs each other. Research indicates that group settings with folks with shared identities and a shared experience automatically provides relief that isolation takes away. Whether you lean into your active listening side, or gift yourself relief and release through sharing, you are bound to feel a relief.
